‘All our six major hospitals have been integrated’ NEW DELHI: Municipal Commissioner K. S. Mehra commissioned a Hospital Information System and Electronic Patient Folder at Hindu Rao Hospital here on Thursday. With the implementation of these two systems, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is the first institution in the country to have adopted HIS and EPF on such an extensive scale. The systems are expected to save time, lead to better patient care through improved management, and provide easy access to information and better quality of documentation. Under the systems, every patient will be given a unique registration number and all patient-data would be retrievable by feeding in the registration number. The EPF will be stored in the central server and be viewable at any MCD hospital. Mr. Mehra said the objective of launching the schemes was to use modern information technology for better delivery of health care services to patients. “All our six major hospitals -- Hindu Rao Hospital, Rajan Babu TB Hospital, Swami Dayanand Hospita, Kasturba Hospital, Infectious Disease Hospital and Girdhar Lal Maternity Hospital -- have been integrated. With the introduction of this system there will be better inventory management with regard to medicines, equipment and instruments leading to more effective patient care and disease management,” he added. Efficient frameworkAdditional Commissioner (Health) Janak Diggal said these systems would also be extended to other medical institutions such as maternity and child welfare centres and dispensaries and provide an efficient framework to dispense quality health services. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
