New Delhi: A rape victim was beaten up in full public view in the Capital by relatives and neighbours of the accused. A group of people, including the wife of the accused, entered into an argument with the woman and showered blows on her, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Chaudhry said. This happened at Mandawali on Thursday night. A case was registered against five persons only on Friday. Mr. Chaudhury told PTI that the woman was under the influence of alcohol and this prevented the early registration of the case. The wife of the accused was arrested later on Friday. The victim, a 35-year-old widow who supplies domestic help, on April 5 alleged that she was raped by her landlord Ramkumar. He was then arrested. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
