NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly manufacturing and supplying duplicate electrical items bearing the logo of a reputed company. The police claim to have seized 1,900 electrical items bearing the fake logo of Anchor Electricals Pvt. Ltd. and 2,600 fake pouches and 2,620 sheets to pack the items. The total cost of the seized items is estimated at Rs. 5 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid in Sarai Rohilla on Friday evening and arrested Suraj Bhan while he was allegedly packing the duplicate electrical items. Suraj purportedly told the police that he was working as a labourer at the unit and got paid Rs. 4,000 per month for the job. A case under the Copyright Act was registered at the Sarai Rohilla police station and investigations initiated. Subsequently Devender Singh was arrested at the instance of Suraj. During interrogation, Devender purportedly told the police that he used to manufacture electrical items in the name and style of Ringer but took to manufacturing duplicate items after the profit margin in the business gradually dwindled with an increase in the cost of raw material. He also disclosed that he had to shut his unit as company officials mounted a raid at his premises last year. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
