TAMBARAM: A man was threatened at knife point and robbed of Rs.1.15 lakh cash on the premises of Aavin dairy in Sholinganallur on Saturday morning by four youths belonging to Orissa. Within hours of the incident, two of them were nabbed and a portion of the cash recovered. Police said Rajkumar (26), working for Pushaparaj, a wholesaler of Aavin milk in Velachery and nearby areas, had come to remit Rs.1.15 lakh cash at the dairy for getting a stock of milk packets. He reached the plant around 3 a.m. and was waiting near the cash counter on the first floor to make the payment. All of a sudden, a group of four men threatened him at knife point, snatched the cash bag and fled from the spot. Noticing the commotion, security guards and other staff on duty rushed to the spot. But by then the four youths had fled. They alerted personnel at the Thoraipakkam police station. As enquiries revealed that the youth hailed from Orissa, the Thoraipakkam police went to Chennai Central railway station and scanned morning trains headed to Kolkata and Cuttack sectors. A staff from the Dairy who accompanied the policemen was able to identify two of the suspects seated inside a compartment of the Coromandel Express. Pappu (21) and Kishore (20) were nabbed by the police personnel in plainclothes and Rs.70,000 recovered from them. A search is on for the other two accused — Gopi (23) and Krishna (22). All of them were engaged in loading milk trays on to delivery vans. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
