KOCHI: Every time a new medium appeared in the horizon, there always came the prediction that books would start gathering dust. That reading would be a thing of the past is being proved wrong by the notable success of the EMS Cooperative Library at Kakkanad, the first such venture in the cooperative sector. Much to the delight of its members, the library recently purchased about 2,000 books worth Rs. 15 lakh at the World Book Fair, 2008, held at Delhi in February. Besides, there are books and journals published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) from Geneva. The list included books of internationally acclaimed publishers from America, Britain, China, Russia, France, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The library has a collection of nearly one lakh books. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
