Two seriously injured in mishap

NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a minor girl, were killed and two seriously injured when an auto-rickshaw carrying goods collided with a motorcycle and a scooter at Sarita Vihar here on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Satish Sharma (45), his daughter Tanu (10) and Sanoj Kumar (24), while Monika (13) and Ashok Kumar (28) have been admitted to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences’ Trauma Centre in a critical condition.

The accident took place around 7-30 p.m. when the auto-rickshaw collided with a scooter near the Badarpur border, seriously injuring Satish Sharma and his daughters Tanu and Monika. The driver then lost control of the three-wheeler and hit two young men on a motorcycle, later identified as Sanoj Kumar and Ashok Kumar.

“Four of the injured were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where Satish Sharma and Sanoj Kumar succumbed to the head injuries around midnight. Tanu was tossed into the river flowing nearby and could not be traced. Initially it was assumed that the girl might have been taken to a hospital by passers-by. When she could not be traced in any of the hospitals in the area, divers were called in to search for the girl. The body was fished out in the morning,” said a senior police officer.

Satish Sharma, a resident of neighbouring Noida, worked for a construction company and was on his way to meet his relatives along with his daughters. Sanoj Kumar of Madhepura and his friend Ashok Kumar of Lucknow worked for a private company in C.R. Park. After the accident, an angry crowd beat up the driver. He, however, managed to free himself and fled before the police could reach the spot. “We are making attempts to trace the owner of the auto-rickshaw which has been impounded,” the officer said.
