NEW DELHI: Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said there was enough food stock in the country and the prices of essential commodities had shown stabilising trends in the past one month. The government had decided to import one million tonnes of edible oil and 15 lakh tonnes of pulses to overcome the shortage. It would also help in lowering the prices, Mr. Pawar told the Lok Sabha in reply to the discussion on price rise. The government would ban futures trading on essential commodities if the Abhijeet Sen Committee did not submit its report within 10 days, he said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
