Abu Salem’s trial adjourned

MUMBAI: The special TADA court, which was expected to start the trial of extradited gangster Abu Salem in the 1993 serial bomb blasts, on Wednesday adjourned the matter till April 22 after the witnesses who were to be examined failed to appear before the court.

The prosecution was going to examine the first witness, an immigration officer who was on duty in India when Salem was deported to Mumbai in 2005.

The TADA court last week issued summons to two of the witnesses, including the immigration officer, directing them to be in court on Wednesday.

However, both the witnesses failed to appear before the court citing personal difficulties.

The matter has been now kept for hearing on April 22, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told PTI. — PTI
