Parivartana a fit shelter home for child labourers

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Department of Juvenile Welfare, Correctional Services and Welfare of Street Children has certified ‘Parivartana’, a rehabilitation centre for child labourers and street children at Kakinada, as fit to be a ‘shelter home’ under Andhra Pradesh Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules, 2003.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, Parivartana president R.A. Rao and Secretary V. Ramakrishna said that their organisation has so far sent back 85 children who left home due to different reasons, to their parents and paved the way for 20 children to get employment by imparting them vocational skills. Forty two children are currently studying various classes at Parivartana.

Parivartana was given ‘fit institution’ certificate for a period of one year in recognition of the meritorious services it has been rendering to the destitute children and those who ran away from parents, since its inception in 2003.

Its office-bearers thanked the donors for their financial and logistical support.

Parivartana treasurer D. Satyavati also spoke.
