CHAMPIONS… Suraj, Padmapriya, S.P. Ritu and S. Karan.

MYSORE: S. Karan and A.K. Padmapriya won the boys’ and girls’ under-16 titles respectively in the Inner Wheel Club of Mysore Central’s AITA Talent Series at the Mysore Tennis Club courts here on Friday.

The top-seeded Karan of Mysore and the Bangalore-based second-seeded S. Raghavendra were involved in a tight contest in the boys’ final. The first set went to the tie-breaker in which Karan won 7-5. Karan capitalised on Raghavendra’s unforced errors to take the second set and match 6-3 to clinch his maiden under-16 crown.

Long battle

The girls’ summit clash saw the Mysore girls — Padmapriya and Rachana R. Gowda — locked in a keen tussle. Padmapriya staved off a strong challenge by Rachana to prevail 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Dr. N. M. Srinivas, President, Mysore Tennis Club, and Smt. Ashwini Patel of South India Paper Mills, Nanjangud, gave away the prizes to winners.

The results (both finals):

Boys: Under-16: S. Karan bt S. Raghavendra 7-6(5), 6-3.

Girls: Under-16: A.K. Padmapriya bt Rachana R. Gowda 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
