Sriramulu arrested, let on bail

BELLARY: Police arrested B. Sriramulu, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Minister, on Saturday in connection with threatening Anil Lad, the prospective Congress candidate from Bellary (City), on Friday. He was later released on bail.

Mr. Sriramulu is alleged to have threatened Mr. Lad, and within minutes, a group of people, said to be supporters of the BJP, attacked Mr. Lad’s house by hurling stones. They also set fire to his vehicles.

Superintendent of Police Amrit Paul told presspersons that 20 persons were arrested in connection with the attack on Friday. All the 20 have been remanded in judicial custody till May 2.

Following a complaint lodged by Mr. Lad, Mr. Sriramulu surrendered before the Cowl Bazar police on Saturday morning. The offence being bailable, he was arrested and later released on bail, Mr. Paul said. He added that the inspector of Brucepet police station had been asked to take up the investigation.
