VISAKHAPATNAM: Keeping your fingers crossed on ‘Rajiv Swagruha’? It’s time to cheer up. The housing scheme, that rekindled the dreams of many middle class people of owning a roof over their head in the city, will soon become a reality. The construction of flats, in the first phase at Yendada, is scheduled for commencement in August and completion in 18 months.

The GVMC has received 11,280 applications for flats in the city. The authorities have acquired 55.58 acres of land so far as against the total requirement of 260 acres. The flats would be constructed in four categories: A (464 sft), B (685 sft), C (1,150 sft) and D (1,450 sft).

“A total of 5,000 flats would be constructed in the first phase. The land value is yet to be fixed and once that is done, the unit cost would be worked out,” Rajiv Swagruha Project Coordinator K.V. Ratnam told The Hindu. The State Government has handed over about 168 acres of land at Nadupur for the second phase. Applicants who couldn’t be accommodated in the first phase would be allotted flats in the second phase. A total of 11,356 applications were received for ‘individual houses’ in Bheemunipatnam Municipality. This would require 1,185 acres of land. A total of 260 acres of land is required for the construction of individual houses for the 3,049 applicants in the Anakapalle Municipality.

Scrutiny

In the event of the land falling short of requirement, the authorities plan to go for construction of apartments in these towns also. Scrutiny could not be made with regard to about 500 applications received for the city. This was because the applicants had either shifted residence or had not given their correct address and telephone number. General Manager (projects), Rajiv Swagruha, Ch. Mutyala Rao said that such people could contact the DVD Centre located on the premises of the Collectorate for re-enrolment of their names. Applicants can visit www.rajivswagruhaap.gov.in to know the status of their applications.
