Workshop on organic farming to be held in May

NABARD sanctions Rs. 1 lakh to Sanjeevi Trust


Emphasis will be on simple practices and concepts

Eminent scientists will interact with participants


Krishnagiri: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development as part of its silver jubilee celebrations has sanctioned an assistance of Rs. 1 lakh to Sanjeevi Trust, Hosur under Farm Innovation Promotion Fund (FIPF) for organising a two-day organic farming workshop.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the Assistant General Manager, NABARD, V. Thirumalai, said that the workshop aims to create awareness among customers and cultivators to go for organic foods and organic cultivation.

The degree of awareness about organic farming in Krishnagiri district was comparatively low in the district even though it had a rich biodiversity, which needs to be preserved and sustained, he said.

Support

The workshop will be held next month. The workshop will be a highly interactive one with emphasis on simple practices and concepts. Each participant will be compulsorily registered and extended support to convert his farm into organic up to the level of certification. Farmers, bank managers, rural development workers and field functionaries of government departments are expected to attend the workshop.

Eminent scientists in organic farming concepts/practices from all over India and successful organic cultivators will interact with participants during the two-day workshop.

About 100 persons will be enrolled for the workshop on first come, first serve basis. Those interested in attending the workshop may contact Sanjeevi Trust Hosur 56/12, 2nd main, 6th cross Vikas nagar, Hosur 635110 on or before May 8.
