No wasting time discussing hypothetical issues: Raghavulu

CPI, CPI(M) to wait till Chiranjeevi floats party

HYDERABAD: The much-hyped proposal of Chiranjeevi to float a political party became a talking point yet again on Tuesday when a close aide of the matinee idol held discussions with leaders of the Left parties.

Although Chiranjeevi himself has not made his political intentions public, P. Mitra, a gastroenterologist and family friend of the megastar, was in the spotlight after he met CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu on Tuesday and CPI secretary K. Narayana on Monday night.

Dr. Mitra visited M.B. Bhavan, the CPI (M) State headquarters, to enquire about the health of Mr. Raghavulu who was undergoing treatment for cervical problem.

“He is an old friend and we discussed several things, including political situation,” Mr. Raghavulu said about their half-hour long meeting. There was, however, no discussion about the proposed political party by Mr. Chiranjeevi as the latter was yet to firm up his plans, he added.

Mr. Raghavulu said that the CPI (M) would think about an alliance only after the party was launched and its policies announced.

“We are not prepared to waste our time on discussing hypothetical issues. Let him (Chiranjeevi) announce the party,” he said, adding the party favoured entry of more parties with people-centred policies into the political spectrum.

Dr. Mitra informed the CPI leader that the film star was determined to float the party, but had not fixed a date for its launch.

Like his Marxist counterpart, Dr. Narayana too said the CPI would announce its stand on the new party based on its policies.
