DESPERATE MOVES: A village resident makes a valiant attempt to chase away a herd of hungry elephants as they approach paddy fields on the outskirts of Guwahati on Tuesday, observed worldwide as Earth Day. Scarcity of feed and creeping encroachment of their forest habitat have often forced wild herds to move to populated areas in their quest for survival.
