NEW DELHI: Australia defeated India 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Asia-Oceania World Junior girls’ tennis tournament at Shenzen, China, on Thursday. The defeat meant that the India girls failed to qualify for the World Group final to be staged in the Czech Republic in August. The Indian boys had made the cut last week. India will meet Thailand in the first placing match for the fifth to eighth positions. Japan, China and Uzbekistan joined the Australian girls in qualifying for the World Group final by making the semifinals.
