SHANGHAI: Australian Peter O’Malley played a near-perfect round of five-under 67 to take the lead after day one of the BMW Asian Open here on Thursday, with Sweden’s Henrik Stenson leading a big chasing pack. World No. 13 Stenson, the highest ranked played in the $2.3 million event, was in a group of four players a shot further back, alongside India’s Jeev Milkha Singh, England’s Oliver Wilson and Finland’s Mikko Ilonen. Singh, 2006 Asian order of merit champion, said his putter made up for a few wayward tee-shots in a five-birdie round only marred by a dropped shot on the sixth, his 15th hole. “I would prefer good putting to good ball striking any day,” said Jeev. — Agencies © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
