1700 daily wagers to benefit Relaxation in recruitment rules NEW DELHI: With a large number of new buses due to join the Delhi Transport Corporation fleet soon, the Delhi Government has decided to regularise the services of nearly 1,700 daily wage DTC conductors and drivers. The decision was taken on Friday at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and attended among others by Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf, Transport Commissioner R. K. Verma and DTC Chairman-cum-Managing Director Ramesh Negi. At the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of the DTC Employees’ Union, the demands of the Corporation employees were discussed in detail. Thereafter it was decided that the services of the daily wage drivers and conductors would be regularised through relaxation in certain recruitment rules, keeping in view their long service in the organisation. Ms. Dikshit said their cases would be taken up immediately to provide relief to employees who had been working in DTC for a long time. The Transport Department has been instructed to initiate the process. It was also decided that free travelling passes would be issued to retired DTC employees as other departments were giving similar facilities to their staff upon superannuation. The issue of promotion of drivers to the post of Assistant Traffic Inspector (ATI) was also discussed and it was decided that the drivers would be accommodated in the vacancies to the post of ATI as and when they were generated. Further, a decision on granting an amount of Rs.1,000 per month to regular drivers on achieving a minimum of 22 days of physical attendance and operation of at least 90 per cent of the scheduled kilometres for the 22 days on average basis in a calendar month was also taken. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
