CHENNAI: PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Saturday urged the State government to take stringent steps against hoarding and smuggling of commodities to check price rise. In a statement here, he said the prices of rice, dhal and edible oils had increased by 10 to 25 per cent in the last few months. With a view to containing the price rise, the Centre had advised the States to take stringent measures. The Tamil Nadu government held a meeting of top officials on the issue and took certain decisions. Even after a week, there was no information about any effective step being taken pursuant to the decision. Dr. Ramadoss said a ceiling on holding stocks of rice and edible oils for both wholesale and retail trade should be fixed. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
