Kerala
As a regular autorickshaw user, I can vouch for the fact that a large number of these three-wheelers plying in the city have either faulty or doctored fare meters. The public thus get fleeced in a big way. I suggest that the weights and measures department, in association with the police, conduct surprise checks and cancel the permits of autorickshaws with such meters. Besides, it is advisable to make it mandatory to get the meters checked by the department every three or four months. O. Mathai Kowdiar Waiting shed neededMany commuters arriving at the Pettah railway station go to their destinations in the city by boarding buses from the Pallimukku junction, beside the Kerala Kaumudi buildings. They, and others, wait in the hot sun or rain, as the bus stop for those going towards the Palayam side has no waiting shed. It is hoped that the authorities will erect a shed there. Jishi R. Palayam Save the booksThe valuable books and furniture of the British Library are dumped in a godown of the PWD Rest House. The sensible thing for the State government to do is to shift the books to the State Central Library or to a government or rented building to run an international library. V.C.
