PALAMANER (Chittoor dt.): A war of words between Minister for Medical Education Galla Aruna Kumari and local TDP MLA Lalitha Kumari ‘gingered up’ the otherwise-lacklustre ‘Praja Patham’ meeting attended by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Gangavaram in Palamaner (SC) constituency on Wednesday.

It all started when the meeting was about to end. Even as people started leaving, the MLA suddenly got on to the stage and sought the mike from the Chief Minister, stunning the officials and leaders alike.

However, the Chief Minister allowed her to speak and when she said that she had “strategically” postponed her speech to gain attention, the Chief Minister got visibly irked and took a jibe at her for ‘having learnt a lot from her mentor (Chandrababu Naidu).

The MLA had earlier left the stage in a huff, apparently peeved at the Chief Minister’s comments comparing the TDP leaders to ‘bandicoots.’

However, during her speech, the TDP MLA raised local issues such as forcible acquisition of farmland for SEZ, corruption, deteriorating public health and drinking water menace amid booing and jeering by hundreds of Congress activists in the crowd.

Braving water sachets and papers hurled at her by the enraged Congress workers, she alleged that the ‘Praja Patham’ meetings were being used only for TDP-bashing

Later, addressing the gathering, Ms. Aruna Kumari said the MLA’s act lacked decency.

She immediately recalled an incident during the TDP regime when the then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu allegedly prevented her from speaking at a meeting, while in sharp contrast Dr. Reddy had allowed the local MLA to speak today.
