Deployment of heavy equipment has begun AMR Group to execute project TIRUNELVELI: Bhoomi puja for the much-awaited Nanguneri Multiproduct Special Economic Zone was performed on Wednesday, triggering expectations in the district that the proposed industrial investment to the tune of Rs. 15,000 crore will bring about a transformation in the southern region in near future. Following the ceremonious commencement of construction on the proposed site on the Tirunelveli–Nagercoil National Highway, deployment of trucks and heavy equipment has begun for landscaping activities. “The site will be bustling with activity within a month,” said one of the officials of AMR Group, which would execute the project since it has 68 per cent of the stake. According to sources here, Mahindra Consulting Engineering is likely to take care of the engineering aspects of the construction. As per the plan, the Nanguneri SEZ should have light manufacturing, design and assembly facilities, modern infrastructure and amenities to attract workforce from across the globe. The industries to be established include less water-intensive electronic and telecommunication components, electronic and consumer durables, light and precision engineering, information technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
