SHEFFIELD: Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry reached the semifinals of the World snooker championship for a record 12th time at the Crucible here. The Scot beat Wales’ Ryan Day 13-7 after resuming on Wednesday with a commanding 11-5 lead. Earlier in the day, Englishman Allister Carter became the first player through to this year’s semifinals when he beat 2002 champion Peter Ebdon 13-9. Carter emulates O’SullivanCarter had compiled a 147 break against Ebdon on Tuesday, the second maximum in two days. Following Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 147 on Monday, it was the first time two maximum breaks have been made in the final stages of the same ranking tournament.
