Assuming charge: Vice Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma at the Naval Base in Visakhapatnam on Friday. VISAKHAPATNAM: A 24-platoon ceremonial parade accorded a warm welcome to Vice Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma, who assumed command as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), at the Naval Base on Friday. The ENC chief went round the platoons in an open-top jeep before taking the salute from the platoon commanders from the dais. The parade was commanded by Commander Parambir Singh, Commanding Officer of INS Karwar. The Nishan Toli was led by Nishan Adhikari Lieutenant Daniel B. Daurd. Vice Admiral Ganesh Mahadevan, Director General, Naval Projects (Visakhapatnam), Rear Admiral H.S. Malhi, Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam), Rear Admiral R.K. Dhowan, Chief of Staff, ENC, Rear Admiral Pradeep K. Chatterjee, Flag Officer, submarines, Rear Admiral Dinesh Prabhakar, Project Director of the Ship Building Centre and Rear Admiral Raman Prabhat, Chief Staff Officer (technical), ENC, were among those who witnessed the parade. Madhulika Verma, wife of the ENC Chief, interacted with the wives of Naval Officers who attended the parade. Tributes to martyrsLater, Vice Admiral Verma paid tributes to martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of our motherland at the Navy War Memorial on the Beach Road. He laid a floral wreath at the memorial and it was followed by ‘Reversal of Arms’ by the Guard and a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the martyrs. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
