DIAL completes two years of operation

NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport Limited, a joint venture consortium mandated to modernise and restructure the Indira Gandhi International Airport here completed its second year of operations this past week.

In the second half of this year, DIAL will unveil a new runway even as construction work on the Passenger Terminal Building (Terminal 3) and a brand new domestic terminal equipped with an inline baggage system is progressing.

“The work on the third runway that will feature CAT IIIB instrument landing system at both ends and the associated taxiways is more than 90 per cent complete. Around 25 per cent work on Terminal 3 is over. The building will serve both domestic and international passengers through 168 common use check-in counters,” said a DIAL official.

The domestic arrivals is also being expanded currently to allow an increase in the baggage claim areas.

The process to modernise the international terminal (Terminal 2) is under way. Considering the growing passenger traffic, a number of steps are being taken to enhance comfort to travellers.

“In the departure area, additional space is being created in the concourse. The number of counters is being increased to speed up check in process. The area allocated to emigration checks will be more than doubled. In addition, the security control area is also being increased and it will now be nearly four times the current size. Additional X-ray units are also being added to facilitate the faster security clearance,” claimed a DIAL official.

In its second year of operation, DIAL undertook took several new initiatives, for instance, setting up a state-of-the-art Airport Operation Command Centre to streamline the airport operations and maximise the efficiency of resources available.

A tie-up with Apollo Hospital was also facilitated to provide medical facilities to passengers and employees.
