No wonder jewellery shops are packed with people on this day like some trade-fair is going on. Gold being considered the symbol of ultimate wealth and prosperity is most sought after on Akshaya Tritiya.

Various jewellers in Puducherry have adopted different means to attract majority crowd to their shops.

Tanishq offers 40 per cent off on making charges of gold jewellery and 5 per cent off on diamond jewellery. Tanishq also has a new saving scheme called ‘eleven plus one’ offer. “Under the new saving scheme, when our customer pays for eleven months, the company pays for the twelfth month” says Mr Harish Nanwani, owner, Tanishq. “We also have a contest every week and present the winner with half gram gold coins” he says.

Sri Lakshmi Jewellery opens as early as 7 a.m. on Akshaya Tritiya. “We will be opening our shop at 7 a.m. itself on May 7 and May 8 to manage the rushing crowd” says Mr Naveen Balaji, Proprietor, Sri Lakshmi Jewellery. They are introducing new French packing boxes for gold coins. “We are introducing compact PVC French boxes for gold coins to give an attractive finishing” says Mr Naveen Balaji. Sri Lakshmi Jewellery also offers 7.5 per cent off on MRP of diamond and platinum jewellery.

Sri Valli Vilas Gold House, boasting of being the only jewellers in Puducherry to have two showrooms, has assembled vast collections of jewels under various categories.

“This year we are introducing lightweight silver jewellery and lightweight colourful gold jewellery” says Mr Shivashankar. “We are also availing pre booking of jewels to help the customers choose their jewel leisurely, as on the Akshaya Tritiya day there will be a heavy rush and people would find very difficult to select the ornament of their choice” he says.

Though some jewellers offer discounts, most of the jewellers in the town feel that they can retain their customers even without any price reduction. These jewellers entice the customers with a good service and offering more varieties in the jewels. Muthu Gold House has stocked a wide range of collections for this Akshaya Tritiya. “We never entertain offers or discounts but maintain our customer base through our collections. For this Akshaya Tritiya we have assembled a variety of jewellery under all categories” says Mr Sugumaran, Proprietor, Muthu Gold House.
