MMC clinches hockey title

Madurai: Madras Medical College (Chennai) won the hockey title defeating host Madurai Medical College 2-0 in the final in the Tamil Nadu State inter-medical colleges games meet here on Sunday.

Vignesh scored the first goal in the 47th minute and Arun scored the second in the 54th minute.

Tuticorin Medical College won the cricket title defeating Madras Medical College (Chennai) by two wickets in the final.

The scores: Madras MC 136 for eight in 20 overs (Dalton three for 20) lost to Tuticorin MC 137 for eight in 19.4 overs (Ilankumar 37, Sudata three for 15).

Other results (all finals): Men: Basketball: Madurai MC 50 (Mohanraj 13, Rock Britto 12, Aravind Babu 10) bt PSG MC, Coimbatore 31.

Mohamed sizzles

M. Mohamed, an under-17 Combined Districts player, came up with an allround performance (105 and four for 47) as Vignesh Sports Club scored a 121-run victory over Jahir CC in the Canara Bank-DDCA first division cricket league at Dindigul on Sunday.

Mohamed was involved in a 205-run second wicket partnership with John Lesslee Bastian (112).

The scores:

First division: Vignesh SC 308 for five in 43 overs (S. John Lesslee Bastian 112, M. Mohamed 105) bt Jahir CC 187 in 37.4 overs (M. Thanga Paramasivam 52, M. Mohamed four for 47).

Second division: All Rounders 138 for seven in 20 overs lost to National 139 for four in 15 overs (D. Ganesh 40).

Anbalagan nets winner

An eighteenth minute strike by Anbalagan helped Ismail FC score a solitary goal win over Adimas FC in the last match of the Madurai DFA ‘C’ division league at Madurai on Sunday. Ismail FC finished runner-up in the league with 22 points as R.L. Institute of Nautical Science, which had already finished its fixtures with an all-win record, emerged champion with 27 points.

KKNP CC is champion

Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project CC emerged champion in the Canara Bank-Tirunelveli DCA second division league defeating Indian CC by 66 runs in the final at Sankarnagar on Sunday.

The scores: KKNP 144 for nine in 20 overs (Alagesan 56, Nazir four for 12) bt ICC 78 in 12 overs. — Sports Correspondent
