India sets up title clash with Sri Lanka

Colombo: Rumeli Dhar shone both with the bat and ball as three-time champion India beat Bangladesh by five wickets to set up a summit clash with Sri Lanka in the women’s Asia Cup cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

India overcame a minor hiccup to maintain its unbeaten run in the tournament, while Sri Lanka prevailed over Pakistan by 45 runs for its third victory in four matches.

Crucial stand

Chasing 161 for win, India was reduced to 86 for four and then 107 for five but Karuna Jain (33 not out) and ICC’s Women’s Cricketer of the Year Jhulan Goswami (23 not out) put up a match-winning unbroken 54-run partnership to steer India out of the woods. Rumeli contributed 31.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Salma Khatun hit a polished 90 off 140 balls with the help of 20 fours.

The scores: Sri Lanka 194 for nine in 50 overs (Eshani Kaushalya 44, Urooj Mumtaz four for 31) bt Pakistan 149 in 45 overs (Urooj Mumtaz 57, Chamari Polgampola four for 26).

Bangladesh 160 for nine in 50 overs (Salma Khatun 90) lost to India 161 for five in 41 overs. — PTI
