Transfer Scarlette case to CBI: Goa

PANAJI: The Goa government on Tuesday issued a notification seeking transfer to the Central Bureau of Investigation the case of Scarlette Keeling, British teenager, who was found dead on the Anjuna beach here in February.

Scarlette’s mother Fiona MacKeown had been demanding that the case be handed over to the CBI as she had no faith in the impartiality of the Goa police.

The government was also under pressure from the Opposition, following lapses in the police investigation which brought it under a cloud of suspicion.

The notification also sought to transfer to the CBI another high-profile case of attack on the Panaji police station in February.

The former Minister and MLA Atanasio Monserrate, who is supporting the ruling coalition, is involved in the case.

The MLA, along with his wife and son, was beaten up by the police after the attack on the station which took place allegedly at his instigation.

The MLA moved the High court demanding that the case be handed over to the CBI.
