NEW DELHI: Long jumper Anju George was running a fever on Thursday, raising doubts about her participation in the Doha Super Grand Prix on Friday. Anju, who along with husband-coach Bobby George, reached Doha in the early hours of Wednesday, was expected to make a strong beginning to her top-level international campaign this season at this meet in her build-up towards the Beijing Olympics. She had registered a 6.50m in her outdoor season debut at Kochi in March in the South Asian championships. Amidst a galaxy of stars competing in Doha, the women’s long jump line-up included two-time Olympic bronze medallist Tatyana Kotova of Russia. She has an indoor best of 6.78m this year. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
