Treat for the eyes: The Centenary Rose Park in Udhagamandalam getting ready for the rose show. Udhagamandalam: With the season in this hill station having entered its peak phase the district administration has been placed in a state of preparedness for a hectic weekend. All eyes are on the Centenary Rose Park where the two-day Seventh Rose Show will begin on Saturday. Pointing out that elaborate arrangements had been made for the show, the Nilgiris Collector Anandrao V.Patil told The Hindu here on Friday that it would be declared open by the Khadi Board Minister K.Ramachandran in the presence of the Commissioner, Agriculture Production, Surjit K.Chowdhary. HighlightsIn keeping with its Garden of Excellence status, the Park was in the pink of condition with all the roses in full bloom. It now featured about 3,600 varieties. The highlights of this year’s show would be a huge map of the nation and a massive rose basket made with about 40,000 roses. There would also be designs of the London Bridge and Ellora paintings made with rose petals, the Collector said. Photo exhibitionPointing out that with the rose show this year’s Summer Festival would also commence, he said that a photo exhibition on the Nilgiris would also be thrown open to the public at the Lawley Institute on Saturday.
