Rahul Gandhi coming on May 13

To address public meeting to be organised by INTUC in Angul

BHUBANESWAR: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who came on a four-day visit of Orissa in March, will visit the State for a day again on May 13.

During his day’s trip, Mr. Gandhi will address a public meeting in the industrial township of Angul. The meeting will be organised by Indian National Trade Union Congress.

Briefing newsmen about the Congress leader’s visit at the Congress Bhavan here on Friday, All-India Youth Congress president Ashok Tanwar said the Angul meeting was being organised by the INTUC to thank Mr. Gandhi for facilitating conferment of Navratna status on National Aluminium Company (NALCO).

Mr. Gandhi had held a meeting with the INTUC leaders at Angul during his last visit to the State where the trade union leaders had urged him to make efforts to ensure conferment of Navratna status on NALCO, Mr. Tanwar said.

Mr. Gandhi had also played his bit to make the Central Government agree to the long-pending demand of the people of Orissa for establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology in the State, Mr. Tanwar said.

Tribal leaders’ meet

On the afternoon of May 13, Mr. Gandhi would address two separate conferences of the dalit and tribal youth leaders at Cuttack.

The conferences, being organised by the youth wing of the Congress from May 12, would be attended by Dalit and tribal youth leaders from different regions of the State, Mr. Tanwar informed.

During his visit to the State in March, Mr. Gandhi had visited several backward regions and interacted with people belonging to various walks of life.

Mr. Gandhi had also stressed the need for inducting more and more youths into the Youth Congress to strengthen the party.
