Pudukottai topper wants to become a cardiologist

PUDUKOTTAI: M. Alamelu of Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School here, who got 1165 marks in the Plus Two examination held in March this year, ranked first in the district.

Attributing her success to the sustained support and encouragement from her parents and teachers and her will to work hard, she said that her ambition was to become a cardiologist. Having realised the seriousness of cardiac-related ailments from newspapers and journals years ago, she had determined to become a cardiologist.

She secured 185 in Tamil; 187 in English; 199 in Physics; 197 in Biology and 199 in Mathematics.

Senior Principal of the School, J. Jonathan Preethi said that maximum utilisation of multi-media technology was one of the major reasons for the school registering cent per cent pass. None of the students preferred tuition, as the teachers had completed the syllabi well ahead of schedule.

“We allowed the students to study on their own beyond September, lest the students should develop anxiety,” he says.

G. Vignesh of Vairam Matriculation HSS (1162) and K. Riachard Neiel of Mount Zion Matriculation HSS, (1159) secured the district-level second and third ranks respectively.

The district registered a pass percentage of 83.6 per cent, with 9,366 students – (4,146 boys and 5,220 girls) emerging successful out of the total 11,204 students (5,261 boys and 5,943 girls) who appeared for the examination.

“Girls fared better than boys in the public examination,” said the Chief Educational Officer, S. Chellam. The pass percentage of girls was 87.8 while it was 78.8 for boys. The official said that ten schools, including two government institutions, registered cent per cent pass percentage this year.

They are: Government HSS in Perungalur in Pudukottai block and in Karaiyur in Ponnamaravathy block; Vairam Matriculation HSS; Mount Zion HSS; Kuthoos Matric HSS; SFS Matric HSS; (all in Pudukottai); Chidambaram Matric HSS, Valayapatti; Jagadeeswara Matric HSS, Manamelkudi; National Matric HSS and Westley Matric HSS, both in Aranthangi.
