Samba: Border Security Force personnel foiled an infiltration attempt by 10-15 militants in the Suchetgarh-Gallard area in Jammu and Kashmir late on Thursday evening.

A party of the 112 battalion deployed in Samba saw the militants trying to tamper with the fence opposite the 6 R outpost at 10.40 p.m. The jawans opened fire and the militants retaliated. The exchange lasted 10 minutes.

Later, the BSF carried out a spot verification. It was found that the used bullets were of AK-47 weapons. The fence was damaged and steps are being taken to repair it.

On Friday morning, the BSF company commander lodged a verbal protest with the Pakistan Rangers. The Indian side requested a flag meeting at the commandant level and Pakistan’s response was awaited, said BSF Deputy Inspector-General J.B. Sangwan.
