MADURAI: Madurai district has seen an encouraging Plus Two examination results this year with the overall pass percentage crossing 90 per cent, which is nearly four per cent more than last year.

Though the district did not figure in the list of State ranks, certain individual components of the results have shown considerable improvement.

Of the total 25,319 candidates (from 205 schools) who appeared for the public examinations this year, 22,819 have passed, thereby giving the district an overall pass percentage of 90.13. The previous year’s pass percentage was 86.62.

Announcing the results here on Friday, R. Pandurangan, Chief Educational Officer, said that the thrust given to ‘Nootrukku Nooru’ scheme to achieve centum pass percentage had enabled 33 schools to achieve it in the district.

District Toppers

The district first rank (with Tamil as first language) was secured by R. Santhosh Subramanian of Central Excise Officers’ Association Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madurai, who scored 1,168 marks.

K. Dhivya of Jeevana Matriculation Higher Secondary School stood second in the district with 1,167 marks while the third position went to K. Alice Jesuntha of SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

She got 1,166 marks. Interestingly, the district topper this year, Santhosh, was also the State first candidate in Matriculation examinations two years ago.

Centum schools

Totally, 33 schools in the district achieved centum pass this year whereas last year the number was 22.

According to Mr. Pandurangan, the Government Girls Higher Secondary School at T. Vadipatti, which sent its first batch of 20 students for Plus Two examinations this year, secured centum.

“We are happy to achieve it. Though this was our first batch, the support of local people, Parent-Teachers’ Association and teachers helped us to figure in centum list,” said the Headmaster, C. Rajendran.

Another Government-run school in the district to secure full pass was the Adi Dravidar Higher Secondary School at Achchampatti.

All the remaining schools in the list were in aided (12) and matriculation (19) streams. Early in the day, officials from the School Education Department led by the CEO compiled the results and distributed them to the respective headmasters at O.C.P.M. Girls Higher Secondary School in the city.
