KOLKATA: All eyes will be riveted on Nandigram as panchayats in five districts of West Bengal go to the polls in the first phase of the elections beginning on Sunday. The districts are: Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura and Bardhaman. However, it is Nandigram where the stakes are the highest for the ruling Left Front and its main political rival, the Trinamool Congress. About 28,000 security personnel, 80 per cent of them armed, have been deployed for the polls.
