Thiruvananthapuram: The Udiyannor Residents Association is celebrating the completion of 100 days of night patrolling by volunteers to check crime in the locality. A family get together was organised to celebrate the event on Sunday. Association president M.V. Abraham presided over the function. Senior police officials participated in the programme. A cultural programme by children and a dinner were also organised. The night patrolling scheme was started after a series house breaks in the locality. “Anti-social elements were posing a menace to the residents and vehicle theft was reported from many houses. The night patrolling scheme, a major activity taken up by the association, has proved to be blessing for the public,” says S.Brite, vice-president of the association. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
