An important win for us: Ganguly

Hyderabad: Sourav Ganguly was obviously pleased with the Kolkata Knight Riders’ win over Deccan Chargers in the DFL Indian Premier League here on Sunday. “It was an important win for us. Especially since it was an away game we wanted to win,” he said.

“At the moment, we are not thinking of the semifinals. In this tournament we have been most affected by the foreign recruits going away due to their national commitments,” Ganguly said.

“Despite the comfortable victory margin, it was not an easy win for they had good bowlers like R.P. Singh, Chaminda Vaas and Scott Styris. But we were able to get the required runs,” Ganguly said.

“In the initial stages we did not lose wickets and that was important. It is always an advantage to have wickets in hand when you go for the final charge,” he added.

Adam Gilchrist, captain of Deccan Chargers, said that it was disappointing to have lost this match. “But we have to see what we can salvage from the rest of the tournament. It is not only this tournament that matters. There is also a future ahead of us and we have to work on our drawbacks,” he explained.

“What made the difference today was the last six overs when they scored a lot of runs. Basically, about 75 percent of our performance is upto the mark. But it is that remaining 25 per cent which is going wrong,” he said.

“The individual performances of our team have been good but we need to carry out some improvements overall,” the Chargers captain said.

“I don’t want to single out any player but we will sit down and work out what is going wrong and how w can improve,” he concluded.
