Anjaparavanda to meet Kootanda in final

Madikeri: Former champion Kootanda will meet last year’s finalists Anjaparavanda in the final of the Alamengada Cup, the 12th edition of the Kodava Hockey Festival being held in Ponnampet in Kodagu district.

In the semifinals on Sunday, Anjaparavanda defeated Machamada 2-1. Ranju (3rd minute) and Sachin Aiyappa (70th) were the scorers for the winner, while Vishwa (39th) reduced the margin.

In the other semi-final, Kootanda had to fight hard to scrape past Kaliyanda 5-4 via sudden death. Cariappa scored for Kaliyanda in the 19th minute and Poonacha converted a penalty corner for Kootanda in the 29th minute.

In the tie-breaker, Santosh, Bopanna and Sachin converted for Kootanda, while Bharat, Darshan and Kiran were on the mark for Kaliyanda. In the sudden death, Poonacha did the star turn putting Kootanda in the final.

Anjaparavanda 2 (Ranju, Sachin Aiyappa) bt Machamada 1 (Vishwa).

Kootanda 5 (Poonacha [tie-breaker: Santosh, Bopanna, Sachin; {sudden death Poonacha}) bt Kaliyanda 4 (Cariappa [tie-breaker: Bharat, Darshan, Kiran]).
