HYDERABAD: Gannavaram near Vijayawada recorded a day temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the highest in the State for the summer thus far.

Heat wave conditions prevailed in Guntur, Nellore and Prakasam districts.

Temperatures in the State are expected to go up further as the peak of the summer is yet to pass.

Even as the mercury shot up beyond 40 degrees Celsius at a number of places in the State on Sunday, a trough lay formed over the State extending from Chhattisgarh to South Tamil Nadu.

Under its influence there were isolated rains in Rayalaseema but the weather remained dry over coastal Andhra and Telangana regions.

A forecast issued by the State Met Office said the heat wave conditions would continue over Guntur, Krishna, Nellore and Prasam districts on Monday and Tuesday.
