More amenities at tourist sites

PUDUKOTTAI: Tourism development schemes are being executed by the Tourism Department and the district administration, at a cost of Rs. 40.34 lakh, in the vicinity of the historical monuments at Kudumiyanmalai and Avudaiyarkovil. While Rs. 19.34 lakh has been spent on infrastructure creation at Kudumiyanmalai, noted for its rock-cut temple of Lord Kuduminathar, the rest has been used for works at Avudaiyarkovil, a heritage site associated with the life of Sri Manickavasagar. The schemes are being executed with a 50 per cent grant from the Tourism Department, and the balance has come from the general funds of the Annavasal and Avudaiyarkovil panchayat unions, Collector D. Uthirakkumaran said.

At Kudumiyanmalai, access roads are being laid at a cost of Rs.10 lakh, a toilet block is coming up at Rs.5 lakh, drinking water supply at an investment of Rs.3.27 lakh and solar lights have been installed at a cost Rs.1.07 lakh. At Avudaiyarkovil, seven solar-lamps costing Rs.1.07 lakh have been installed.
