Remedies to pay panel anomalies soon

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: The high-power committee set up to look into the anomalies in the VI Central Pay Commission recommendations is likely to come out with remedies in a month, according to Rajya Sabha member and All-India INTUC president G. Sanjeeva Reddy.

Talking to mediapersons here on Sunday, he said the INTUC had taken the issue to the notice of the Centre, particularly with respect to the promised 40 per cent fitment benefit to employees.

“But in some cases, the benefit is much less – at 35 per cent, 30 per cent and even 13 per cent. And after doing away with the D category, it is found that some of the seniors are getting much less than juniors, which needs to be addressed,” he said.

He also said the union demanded lifting of ceiling on bonus. Though the ceiling was hiked to Rs.10,000, the benefit was not reaching skilled workers. When there was no ceiling to the prosperity of the managements, why should there be one for the bonus, he asked.

Mr. Reddy also revealed that efforts were on to re-introduce the bill on unorganised sector labour with necessary amendments to provide pension for those above 60 years, medical facility for all members of the family, free education and unemployment relief when they could not get any work. This should benefit the 30 crore workers in the unorganised sector, including agriculture labour, artisans and self-employed, he said.

On the merger of the BHPV in the BHEL, he said that the BHPV would continue with its old name for a couple of years after which it would become the 15th unit of the BHEL in the country. He appealed to the management to regularise the services of casual workers and pay the wage arrears. He urged the employees to strive to take the company on the path of progress as the new unit was likely to provide employment for more.
