Anjaparavanda’s maiden title

Madikeri: Anjaparavanda, led by former Olympian A.B. Subbaiah, defeated former champion Kootanda 4-3 via tie-breaker in the final of the Alamengada Cup, the 12th edition of the Kodava Hockey Festival at Ponnampet on Monday.

Kootanda went ahead through international Poonacha, who converted a penalty in the 42nd minute. But four minutes later Anjaparavanda Kushalappa drew parity.

After the barren golden goal extra time, Abhin, Cariappa and Roshan found the target for the winner, while Bopanna and Paresh scored for Kootanda.

Subbaiah, who kept goal for Anjaparavanda foiled Poonacha’s attempt to steer his team to its first ever title triumph.
