Authenticity of e-mail being verified

NEW DELHI: The central intelligence agencies are verifying the authenticity of the e-mail and the video clip and are also trying to find out whether any outfit by the name “Indian Mujahideen” really exists.

The mail, which claims that Jaipur was targeted as it was a place of major tourist attraction, talks about a similar e-mail sent by the outfit to the media minutes before the serial blasts in Uttar Pradesh courts in November last, indicating the involvement of the same group in both attacks.

The previous mail was sent from a cyber café at Shakarpur in East Delhi and its sender is yet to be identified.

The U.P. police have intensified their effort to track down Shamim, a HuJI operative, who is also suspected to be involved in the March 2006 blasts in Varanasi.

The Delhi police were also assisting the Jaipur police in the investigations by sharing of inputs and conducting technical surveillance.

Investigations by the central indicate that the Jaipur blasts on Tuesday were carried out by the Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HuJI) with logistical assistance from the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

At least three terror modules were involved in the strike for which planning started almost two months ago and reconnaissance of the potential targets was conducted.
