Balloon creates panic

Nagpur: The Meteorology Department’s weather balloon, which fell in a residential area here, caused panic for sometime on Thursday. It fell in front of a house in the Bannerjee Layout in south city area causing panic among the residents who mistook it for an aerial bomb-like object and informed the Ajni police.

The police identified the object as a balloon released by the Meterolological Department located near Dr. Ambedkar International airport for gathering weather information. Later, the Bomb Detection and Defuse Squad recovered the balloon with a plastic box and a small transmitter from the Ajni police.

On Wednesday, a similar balloon had fallen close to the headquarters of the RSS in Mahal area. — PTI
