CHENNAI: Sailors from the TNSA swept the board in the sponsor’s race that signalled the start of the National optimist Under-16 coastal sailing championship here on Friday. The first five places were taken by the host’s participants.
Hussain Bhavnagarvala, the runner up at the National Inland Optimist Championships in 2007, took the first place. Aman Vyas, the top sailor from NSS Bhopal was in his imported boat donated by the Commodore of the TNSA, could manage only eighth place. Earlier the week-long National event was flagged off by the President, National Optimist Association of India Lt. Gen U.S.P. Sinha. Mr. Ashok Thakkar, Commodore Tamil Nadu Sailing Association, highlighted the fact that the championship this time would witness the use of imported boats. The results: Sponsors’ Race: 1.
