Infrastructure development needed in Tirupur, says BJP

Special Correspondent

Need to appoint IPS officer as Police Commissioner stressed

COIMBATORE: State secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party G.K.S. Selvakumar has urged the State Government to take immediate steps for infrastructure development in Tirupur.

Mr. Selvakumar has said in a letter to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi that though the government had announced that Tirupur would become a district on April 1, it had not happened even a month since then. It continued to be a part of Coimbatore District.

Corporation

Though Tirupur had been made a Corporation from a municipality, the infrastructure did not measure up to the standards required for a Corporation. The Corporation should have an Indian Administrative Service officer as Commissioner.

A committee with an IAS officer as head should be constituted to go into the demarcation of Tirupur District’s boundaries. Members of political parties, elected representatives, social activists and educationists should be members, the letter said.

Robbery

Alleging frequent occurrence of waylaying and robbery, Mr. Selvakumar called for improving policing with the posting of an Indian Police Service officer as the Police Commissioner of Tirupur.
