Matriculation schools told to desist from detaining students

Orientation programme for teachers of matriculation schools to be held

in June

COIMBATORE: The Inspector of Matriculation Schools, R. Kaliannan, has appealed to the matriculation school administrators to desist from detaining students till Class IX.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the decision was taken to improve the efficiency of teachers and the quality of education. The teachers should work hard towards ensuring that every student in the class was promoted to the next. The failure of students essentially meant the failure of the teacher, he said.

In this regard, an orientation programme would be organised for the teachers of matriculation schools in June.

Mr. Kaliannan condemned the practice followed by certain schools in delaying the process of giving Transfer Certificates (TC) to students. Some schools even demanded the following year’s term fees from the students before issuing the TC. School authorities should give TC to students as and when they required it so that the delay did not affect their education, he said. Action would be taken against the schools that delayed TC to students.

Parents had reservations about sending their children to certain schools as they believed that only a few schools offered quality education. “The performance of the student depends on the hard work he or she puts in,” he said.

Parents could inform the office of the Inspector of Matriculation Schools in case of schools collecting donations and other such fees from the students. They could also send in their complaints to the office. The office can be contacted at 0422-2315698.
