TIRUCHI: Central government staff of various departments staged a dharna near Khadi Kraft junction here on Friday to press for their charter of demands including removal of anomalies in the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

The employees of Railways, Postal, Income Tax, Customs and Excise Departments, Airports Authority of India, Ordnance Factory, Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project and Prasar Bharathi under the banner of Confederation of Central Government Employees participated in the dharna which was led by joint action committee divisional president M.S. Unnikrishnan.

The employees wanted the ban on recruitment to be withdrawn besides withdrawal of the new pension scheme. While condemning the move to privatise Central Government institutions, they demanded regularisation of contract labourers working in various government departments.

They demanded that the Class IV cadre should be with the government and not be outsourced.

Member of Parliament and president of Dakshin Railway Employees Union T.K. Rengarajan delivered a special address on the occasion.

Around 500 government staff from various unions participated in the day-long dharna.
