Security at Tenkasi temple strengthened

Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI: Security at the Kasi Viswanatha Swamy temple at Tenkasi has been beefed up following a threatening phone call.

Police sources said the anonymous call to the Tenkasi police station warned: “Save the temple if you can.”

A police team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mayilvaahanan, went to the temple immediately and checked in vain for explosives.

Letter

A letter recovered by the police from the District Collectorate premises warned that Melapalayam-based supporters of banned outfits were planning to launch an attack on political leaders and public places.

The Chennai police nabbed Syed Kasim alias Heera of Melapalayam on Thursday during a surprise check at Mannadi.
